Dieting for Two

I know what you're thinking... she's doing WHAT? She shouldn't be dieting... she should be eating for two! Well, no, I'm not really dieting but I've been eating better than I've ever eaten. It's amazing how when you're completely responsible for the entire life of another being how that changes your perspective and you want to make sure you're making the best choices. I always dreamed of the day I would become pregnant and couldn't wait to eat whatever I wanted... ice cream sundaes with hot fudge, potato chips, donuts all day long!

But when it actually happened, I didn't want to. My body is craving fruits and vegetables like crazy and that's all I want to eat. Meat... not so much, but Daniel is being very bossy, err I mean encouraging making sure I get enough protein in my diet, so don't worry about that!

Of course, I still have the occasional chips or ice cream, but I seldom desire it, and we are trying to choose healthy foods when we can. That could be why I'm not packing on the pounds, although to be honest, I do wish that belly bump would come already. I'm still in that "is she just pudgy or is she pregnant" phase. I'm definitely not rushing it though, and enjoying every minute and every stage as it comes - I know it will be here before we know it and I will actually start to have to invest in some big old maternity pants with that oh so lovely stretchy band that for some reason designers chose to make a completely different color than the pants - why???

I will say that although I can't understand the whole pickles and ice cream thing (really, people eat them together?!?!?!), I definitely love my pickles. But I've always loved pickles. All kinds of pickles. Heck, Tara Higgins and I finished off an entire platter of pickles and olives at my communion party when we were eight. So last month when Daniel's brother Chris came to visit, we took him out to a food and wine festival in Nashville, and then headed out to Broadway to show him "the strip". I was a little hungry by then since a food and wine fest apparently doesn't exactly cater toward foods and drinks a pregnant lady can eat, so we wandered into Merhants (one of my favorite restaurants by the way, yum). We ordered some apps to share but just then I saw this gorgeous, crisp, bright green pickle spear on someone's plate and just had to have one. I thought about asking the guy if he was done with that, but instead ordered my own like a respectable person. Next thing I know, the bartender is bringing me an entire whole pickle (the thing was probably 6" long and 2" in diameter), plus more spears on the side. Do you know I ate that entire thing with a fork and knife all to myself?

Okay, so maybe I'm having some cravings...

Although I didn't think to take a picture of the pickles, here's a photo of Dan, Chris and I at Baby B's first Sounds baseball game that weekend.
